Robot cell for quality testing

Cell description

The customer builds robot cells for material testing of machine elements. A sensor is passed over the surface of the material by a Mitsubishi RV-6SL. Measurements are made of the component's internal stress and any overheating caused by grinding or heat treatment errors are detected.

Task definition

If the measuring is to be carried out correctly, it is important that the distance from the sensor to the surface of the test material always remains constant. If it is not, measurement results will be incorrect.

To ensure the measurement results are reliable, the robot programs must always run the same way. So it is of major importance to the customer that the robots are always identically mastered.

As the robots are not dowelled but screwed onto a standard profile, the geometric relationship between the robot and the test piece is also of critical importance.

Implementation

An adapter with two mechanical connections was mounted on the flange of the Mitsubishi; one connection was for the measuring rod, the other for the LaserLAB holder. A base plate to which the LaserLAB is screwed was fixed to the machine base.

A loop:in for robot calibration was carried out as well as a base:in for measuring the workpiece holder.

Customer benefit

Using LaserLAB has enabled the customer to perform maintenance on their robot cells, which are sold worldwide, by a standardised method.
